Lead Technical Artist - Online Games - China (Ref. 888)
Our client is one of the largest development studios for online multiplayer games in all of China. With a bold plan to break into Western markets, they now seek a talented Technical Artist to lead their Technical Art Department and help deliver experiences from the ground up for a Western audience.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research and and develop tools for use in the art production pipeline
- Study and build up a high familiarity with the game engine used in studio, ultimately able to edit and maintain game engine features according to requirements
- Assess requirements of different departments, identify potential problem areas and provide technical support where necessary, ensuring technical documents are up to date
- Provide technical support in establishing and improving the art production pipelines and take part in training new Art employees
- Drive innovation and technical improvements to push the boundaries of art and effects while adapting to shifting needs or technical requirements, maintaining pipelines, and tools throughout
- At least 8 years’ experience within the games industry and at least 5 years within Technical Art roles, ideally with leadership experiences as well
- An eye for art and aesthetics, with great proficiency in understanding different art production pipelines and technical requirements
- Knowledge of Design and Programming department pipelines, with ability to co-operate interdepartmentally during development and provide technical support for issues between Art and Code
- High degree of self-motivation, able to work on own initiative and effectively prioritise and delegate tasks, an effective communicator at all levels
- Understanding of 3D art production tools (3DS Max, Maya, Zbrush, XSI, Photoshop and etc), at least one mainstream game engine (Unreal, CryEngine, Unity, etc) and at least one scripting language (MaxScript, UnrealScript, Mel, etc)
- Proficient in at least one programming language (C++, C etc)
